2009 Hog & Ham Schedule

January 19 - Workshop in Gainesville, required for all participants.

February 23 - Applications for participation due.

February 26 - Agents notified as to participants selected.

March 13-16 - Beginning weigh-in on certified scales in County; take beginning photo of pig.

March 16 - Call Wendy with names of participants completing weigh-in.

March 27 - $65.00 registration fee, projected cost analysis sheet, photos of pig/housing/feed label due.

March 16 - June 24 - Feeding period; complete Retail Audit

May 1 - Send 'midway' photo of pig, photo of current feed label, and pig's current weight of estimated weight (formula in the H&H Project Guide).

June 25, Thursday - Deliver hogs to UF Meats Lab for harvesting. Bring Retail Audit for review.

June 26, Friday - Process carcasses at UF.

June 27, Saturday - Process carcasses at UF.

(Details of processing days will be specified at or after the Workshop in January.)

July 14 - Project Books and Retail Audits with copies of thank you letters are due to county 4-H office.

July 21 - All Project Books and Retail Audits due to Larry Eubanks, University of Florida.

July 31 - Demonstration Day at University of Florida; awards presentation. Pick up cured hams, bellies, and smoked sausage links.
